Publications

I am an author of more than 1,600 peer-reviewed publications, primarily as a member of the ATLAS Collaboration. In large ATLAS publications, authors are listed alphabetically, so authorship order does not indicate the magnitude of an individual's contribution.

Below is a selection of publications to which I made substantial individual contributions. My complete publication record, including citation information, is available on my INSPIRE author profile. A more detailed description of my contributions can be found in my CV.

Selected publications

High-dimensional unbinned measurement of Z+jets production
ATLAS Collaboration, ATLAS-CONF-2026-009 (2026). ATLAS result
Led the development of this high-dimensional measurement using OmniFold and variable-length particle inputs, including the unfolding strategy, machine-learning methodology and validation.

A Practical Guide to Unbinned Unfolding
Eur. Phys. J. C 86 (2026) 106. INSPIRE
Developed practical methodology for validating, publishing and using unbinned differential cross-section measurements.

Evidence for the Higgs-boson decay to a pair of muons
ATLAS Collaboration, Phys. Rev. Lett. 135 (2025) 231802. INSPIRE
Supervised the Carleton contribution to the H → μμ analysis, including the PhD research of Bryce Norman.

Determination of the Relative Sign of the Higgs Boson Couplings to W and Z Bosons Using Production via Vector-Boson Fusion
ATLAS Collaboration, Phys. Rev. Lett. 133 (2024) 141801; Editors' Suggestion. INSPIRE
One of three Carleton researchers who carried out the analysis. I supervised the student contribution and, together with John Keller, wrote the paper.

Publishing unbinned differential cross section results
JINST 17 (2022) P01024. INSPIRE
Co-developed a framework for publishing differential cross-section measurements as weighted particle-level events rather than conventional binned histograms, providing the methodological basis for our subsequent unbinned-measurement program.

Differential cross-section measurements for the electroweak production of dijets in association with a Z boson
ATLAS Collaboration, Eur. Phys. J. C 81 (2021) 163. INSPIRE
Led and supervised the Carleton analysis, including the PhD research of Stephen Weber.

Measurements of fiducial and differential cross sections for Higgs boson production in the diphoton decay channel at √s = 8 TeV with ATLAS
ATLAS Collaboration, JHEP 09 (2014) 112. INSPIRE
Helped pioneer the development of fiducial and differential Higgs-boson cross-section measurements in ATLAS.

Observation of a new particle in the search for the Standard Model Higgs boson with the ATLAS detector at the LHC
ATLAS Collaboration, Phys. Lett. B 716 (2012) 1–29. INSPIRE
Responsible for ensuring that jet-related systematic uncertainties were consistently evaluated across the Higgs searches, with particular responsibility for this aspect of the H → WW analysis.

Observation of Single Top Quark Production
D0 Collaboration, Phys. Rev. Lett. 103 (2009) 092001; Editors' Suggestion. INSPIRE
Played a major role in the D0 single-top-quark analysis, developing multivariate analysis and software methods used to extract the signal from background. This work formed the core of my PhD thesis.
