A special session was arranged at the ICCR meeting in May 2000
in Heidelberg (see The Use of Computers in Radiation Therapy, eds W
Schlegel and T Bortfeld, Springer, Heidelberg, 2000) at which various
groups working on implementing Monte Carlo treatment planning have been
asked to answer some specific questions concerning timing and accuracy.
An introductory paper was written by Rogers and Mohan.
It describes the questions asked and gives an overview of the issues. It can
be downloaded in any one of several formats:
pdf format - 140 kbyte.
postscript format - 362 kbyte.
compressed ps.Z format - 107 kbyte.
gzip ps.gz format - 73 kbyte .
This site also allows others access to the data needed to do the comparison. Others are encouraged to answer the questions and publish the results.
Here is the 18MV photon spectrum
in standard EGS ensrc format. This is for Question III.
In this case the bins are al 250 keV wide. The
format is:
top of energy bin, relative probability to be in that bin.
Here is the 6MV spectrum which may be used for question I.
Here are the results for the question III reference depth-dose curves. These are point plots in xmgr format which is simply
depth at mid-point of bin, absolute dose per unit incident fluence on the surface and absolute uncertainty (68%), one per line.
